So you just passed your Technician exam, and you have a freshly filled out CSCE (Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination) form in hand. You know, that little white half page piece of paper that says you earned a new license class.
Now what do you do?
Do you have a radio? Can you program it? Do you need help figuring out where to go next? Reach out to our elmers. An elmer is an experienced amateur radio operator that’s absolutely willing to help you. This can be a daunting hobby to get started. It’s nice to have a guide, and you met one or more of these gentlemen at the meeting or the testing session.
- Warren Robinson (AB0HX)
- Frank Momot (KC9SDU)
- Ben Townsend (W1TBM)
- Arthur Smith (N9XRY)
It might be worth joining your local amateur radio club. You already know about us here, and maybe you’ve even joined us. But there are other clubs in the area that are worth getting involved with, depending on where you live. No one minds if you belong to more than one club – we love spending time with our neighbors! Listed in no particular order:
- Ozark Foothills Amateur Radio Club (Fredericktown, MO)
- Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club
- River Hills Amateur Radio Club (Perryville, MO)
- Ste. Genevieve County Amateur Radio Club
- Zero Beaters Amateur Radio Club (Washington, MO)
- Southeast MO Amateur Radio Club (Jackson, MO)
In addition, the Eastern Missouri Beacon is a local amateur radio resource available for use to spread information and knowledge.
