August 2025 Update

Hey everyone! Here’s your quick rundown of what went down at our August 9th meeting at 200 N Allen St. We had a good crowd, a few laughs, and got a lot done — all before 10 AM!

🏆

New Board for 2025-2026!

Our first meeting with the new leadership team for the year – almost the same as the last leadership team!

  • President: Ben Townsend – W1TBM
  • Vice President: Dave Lahay – N0VLA
  • Secretary: John Krueger – W0NSX
  • Treasurer: Arthur Smith – N9XRY
  • Repeater Trustee: Frank Momot – KC9SDU

Congrats to all, and thanks for stepping up to serve!

📡

Repeater & Technical Talk

  • Our repeater’s performing like a champ! We even had a mobile QSO from St. Louis.
  • EchoLink had a hiccup but Frank got it fixed fast (once he knew about it).
  • Field Day was a blast with three stations plus GOTA. We did have some interference, but band pass filters should fix that. Next year we’ll work on getting the word out better!

🛠

Club Projects & Equipment

  • Gear from Chief Pratt’s brother.
    • 2m Ringo Ranger is complete and functional
    • Mosley HF Vertical – about 20’ tall. Frank has all the elements, but it needs a little hardware
    • 5-element cross-polarized 2m antenna with 2 feedline connections. May be a Cushcraft
  • Approved purchase of a shorting switch for antenna flexibility at the fire house— Frank will pick it up.

📅

Mark Your Calendars!

🍖 September 13 – Meeting + BBQ at Arthur’s after the meeting. Bring your lawn chair, favorite side dish, and drink.

🚴 September 17 – Bottleneck Bridge Ride. Lori KE0WWQ is leading our volunteer crew — thanks, Ben, for already signing up! Brandon KF0HOG might join in, too.

📡 WinLink Training – Brandon is offering another session soon. With Emergency Management leaning on WinLink more and more, now’s a good time to brush up.

📢

ARES Corner

  • Oct 4 – Simulated earthquake SET from 9 AM–12 PM. Multiple stations across Jefferson County and HF comms with SEMA.
  • Washington County 911 has a new amateur station and is inviting us to train on their equipment.
  • JeffCo ARES Net now runs the 1st Tuesday after the JeffCo Club Meeting, monthly at 6:30 PM on 147.075.

🎙

Net Control Lineup – August & September

Club Nets:

Aug 11 – W1TBM | Aug 18 – N9XRY | Aug 25 – KF0HOG | Sep 1 – N9XRY | Sep 8 – KF0MXQ (tentative) | Sep 15 – W1TBM

💬 That’s it for this month! Big thanks to everyone who came out and contributed. The club’s running strong thanks to all of you — whether you’re chasing DX, running nets, helping with events, or just sharing your knowledge.

See you September 13th at the next meeting — and save room for BBQ at Arthur’s later in the day (2pm)! 🥩

About US

The Eastern Ozarks Amateur Radio club has been operating since 1978, serving the amateur radio community in St. Francois, Washington, Madison, and other southeastern Missouri counties. The club repeater, at 147.030, PL 100, is active and hosts multiple nets throughout the week, and it open for ragchewing via RF or EchoLink, when not otherwise in use. We encourage you to call in and say “Hi!”

We would also love if you came to a club meeting on the second Saturday of each month at 9am. We meet at the Bonne Terre Fire House, 2020 N. Allen St, Bonne Terre.
